Welcome to our Spring 2024 newsletter!

Time flies when you’re having fun! What’s on this Spring gives you the season’s Events and Activities.

The year is whizzing along with our Brisbane production for Midnight at the Cemetery and South Burnett production, A Small Day Out at the Rodeo. Not to be missed! See the Brisbane Ensemble shine at the Queensland Multicultural Centre and the South Burnett Ensemble give their all at the Kingaroy Town Hall during November. Details below.

We turn the Spotlights on Lachlan Driscoll, our Blue Roo Artistic Director, new sponsors Crow FM 90.7 (Wondai) and McDonald’s (Kingaroy), celebrate Team members Benjamin’s and Brigid’s latest achievements, and announce that the 2025 Term 1 Registrations are now open for our Pathways to Performance Programs (Theatre) and our new Pathways Program (Festivals, Fetes and Fun for 16 plus).

What’s in this edition?

Midnight at the Cemetery” – The Latest Blue Roo Production

Are you looking for a unique and heart-warming theatre experience filled with laughter, music, and eerie things that go ‘ping’ and ‘zing’? Then don’t miss this original adventure devised by Sarah Jackson and the Blue Roo Theatre Ensemble!

Midnight. A local cemetery flooded by the eerie glow of a full moon. How brave are you, really? You’ll soon find out in this hilarious melodrama. Hold your breath and be alert! The world needs more lerts!

Performances: Queensland Multicultural Centre, 102 Main Street, Kangaroo Point 4169.

A Small Day Out – At the Rodeo” – The Inaugural Blue Roo Production – South Burnett

Come along to our inaugural performance in the South Burnett region. Support our Kingaroy participants and Rockin’Our Ability collaborators as they put on their first show – guaranteed to be unique, heart-warming and a little bit crazy. Don’t miss “A Small day Out – At the Rodeo” the latest adventure devised by Sarah Jackson and the South Burnett Blue Roo Theatre Ensemble!

“A Small Day Out At The Rodeo” follows a day in the life of Jo and Les when they find themselves right in the middle of an unexpected adventure of madness and mayhem at the local rodeo.  Expect the unexpected at this hilarious family friendly show! 

Performance: Kingaroy Town Hall, Glendon Street, Kingaroy 4610.

Meet Lachlan – Our new Artistic Director

Introducing … Lachlan Driscoll, Blue Roo Artistic Director, and Mentor.

What can we say about Lachlan? 

Lachlan is known for his great sense of humour, bright smile, and passion for helping people with disability achieve their artistic goals. The Ensembles and Committee love working with him.

As a seasoned theatre maker, Lachlan brings a wealth of experience as a director and producer, with a background in drama, comedy, and site-specific theatre. He has produced and directed performances for festivals like Wynnum Fringe, Anywhere Festival, Backbone Festival, and Redcliffe Museum. His playwriting skills have been honed by volunteering with The Storey Players, Playlab Theatre, and Queensland Writers Centre.

A passionate advocate for the transformative power of performance, Lachlan fosters an inclusive environment at Blue Roo, ensuring everyone is seen, heard, and empowered to tell original stories and create unique performances that change lives and inspire and strengthen communities.

His work with Blue Roo is rooted in collaboration. He leads Blue Roo’s artistic vision of excellence while growing an inclusive arts community where participants and artists with disability can shine on stage and develop as creative leaders in a safe and joyful space.
